| The Atlantic Ocean is my Dream | |
My sister Milena and I landed in Orlando and rented a wonderful car to see the surrounding. I decided to spend a week holiday on the Atlantic Ocean – it was my dream. I’ve read much about this spot on earth but never have been there. What is the aim of my traveling? I’d like to forget about everyday routine, charge new energy and have good impressions. The Atlantic Ocean is lying between the west coasts of Europe and Africa and the east coasts of North and South America and extending from the Arctic to the Antarctic Seas. It is the second only to the Pacific Ocean among the world’s oceans and covers about a fifth of the earth’s surface. The total area, excluding bays and seas, is 31,830,000 square miles. Because of the number and extent of the Atlantic’s inlets, gulfs, and bays its coastlines are very big – it gives away the east being nearly 32,000 miles and the west nearly 55,000. Principal inlets are Baffin and Hudson Bays, the Gulf of Mexico and Guinea, the Bay of Biscay and the North Sea, where anyone can spend his holidays successfully. The great currents of the Atlantic are of two kinds: drift currents and stream currents. Drift currents are produced by the wind, either by the perpetual, or trade, winds or by prevailing winds. Stream currents have a great clockwise movement in the Northern hemisphere. The motion is reversed in the Southern hemisphere. The Gulf Stream is the most important of the many currents in the Atlantic Ocean of its influence on the climates of the bordering land area. It is a continuation of the main equatorial current and proceeds from the Gulf of Mexico through the Straits of Florida and up the eastern coast of the United States. My sister and I were impressed by the sights of the Old town in Key West during our holidays. We were walking along the lanes, smelling the jasmine and giving away our charming smiles to the passers-by. |
